Karbala Investment Commission signed a memorandum of understanding with a delegation from the Romanian companies

Karbala Investment Authority said that the Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with a delegation representing the eight Romanian companies to perform a variety of residential projects, agricultural and industrial .
A statement issued by the Information Office in Karbala Investment Commission explained that the Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with a delegation representing the eight Romanian companies to implement a number of industrial projects, agricultural and residential .
Among the projects that have been signed, according to the statement, building thousand housing units in a vertical and three floors on an area of ​​10 hectares with all accessories related infrastructure for the project, was also signed to establish a cattle farm and animal feed.
The statement was signed on the implementation of the project to establish a factory for recycling of waste, and a special technique paving roads using enzymes, noting that he was relying on modern technology is used in many countries of the world, help the cohesion of the upper layer of the soil and prevent the scattering of dust, dirt and can be utilized in agricultural roads.
The statement stressed that Romanian companies have pledged all the documents and feasibility studies and plans necessary to implement the projects.

National Investment Commission participates in the work of the Iraq project in Erbil

The NIC participated in the “Project Iraq 2010” Fair, which was held for the period 27th – 30th of September 2010 on the grounds of Erbil International Fair, represented by a high level delegation.
The head of the delegation said that the purpose behind this participation is to promote the investment process in the country in addition to being introduced to the international investors and companies’ participating in the fair and opening new contact channels with them to enter the Iraqi market and seize the big investment opportunities.
He added that several meetings had been made with a number of participating investors who had showed a big interest to invest in Iraq benefiting from incentives and guarantees insured by the investment law No. 13 for the year 2006 and its amendments.
On the other hand, officials responsible for the fair management highly evaluated the NIC role in attracting Arab and foreign investors to participate in the huge projects aiming at rebuilding Iraq, asserting through the opening ceremony speech that the arrival of this big number of international companies is a great opportunity for those companies to participate in the ongoing reconstruction process and the huge projects announced by the NIC like the project of the One Million Housing Unit.
It is also worthwhile to mention that “Iraq project 2010” was mainly devoted for the constructional and environmental companies where 300 companies from 20 regional and international countries were participating in addition to a number of ministries. The fair also was highly attended by businessmen and Iraqi people.

During the ceremony, said: that “the National Investment Commission is working with major international companies for the implementation of the project one million housing units adopted by the Commission, in addition to other residential complexes which in turn will reduce the current gap housing crisis.”

He added that “this complex is a testament to continue Authority with the ministries within the plan aimed at constructing residential complexes and all segments, especially low-income people under the Investment Law No. (13) of 2006, as amended, indicating that this compound will be implemented within the international standards that befits بالأستاذ university and employees of the Ministry of Education Higher Education and Scientific Research for their efforts in the march of science and knowledge and create the future men who will have a big role in rebuilding Iraq.

As presented by Dr. Collier Khalil representative Noor Ritaj Turkish executing the project thanks and appreciation to the National Commission for Investment and its president, Dr. Sami al-Araji for their facilities and great support in order to enter the investor to Iraq and participate built, indicating that the compound Ameria housing for employees of the Ministry of Higher Education and the University of Baghdad will complete his time and selected international specifications.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the University of Baghdad, Dr. Musa al-Musawi and a number of officials and umpteen.

The complex will be implemented on an area of 45 acres and the rate of (2000) residential units, in addition to facilities other (such as schools and all stages, kindergartens, social club, complex marketing, mosque), as well as the complex will have the availability of water and electricity in accordance with high-level specifications, knowing that the time limit for the completion of the project (3) years.

Dr. Al- Araji mentioned that the delegation represents well known Korean companies such as (Daewoo Engineering and Construction, Daewoo International for Investment and Trade, Samsung, Korean Petroleum National Company, GS, SK for Construction, SK for Power). He also emphasized that such partnership will not be established easily after a long time of cutout.
One of the important achievements fulfilled during this visit, is the direct meeting between the Korean delegation and the Iraqi private sector hoping that private sector invest this opportunity to establish investment and economic partnership in different sectors and utilize the Korean experience because big projects in Iraq needs economic knowledge and financial resources and both are available to the Korean side, he said.
Regarding inviting companies from other countries, Dr. Al-Araji said that NIC invited many international delegations to visit Iraq , and continuing to do so especially after announcing the 5-year plan approved recently. He also added that NIC is working on connecting the Iraqi private/public sector with foreign sector in all economic sectors.
The Korean side represented by the Korean Ambassador in Iraq who attended the meetings reflected the delegation satisfaction with the interest the Iraqi side showed. He also assured the Korean interest to enter the promising Iraqi market and create investment partnership with both Iraqi private and public sectors.

Chairman of the National Investment Commission meets economic aide to Iranian Vice President prospects الاستثمارين cooperation between the two countries

Dr. Sami R. Al Araji discussed cooperation between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran in different sectors.
While receiving Mr. Ali Agha Muhammad, the Economic Advisor of Iranian Vise President, Dr. Sami said that Iraq is a fertile land for investment due to its great investment opportunities in different sectors such as housing, power, oil, transportation, tourism and other economic sectors.
NIC Chairman expressed his hope to consider this visit as a step forward economic cooperation between the two countries and invite the Iranian companies to participate in the current investment process and access the big investment projects promoted by the NIC, most important of all the 1- million housing units project in all over Iraq .
The Economic Advisor of Iranian Vise President confirmed his country’s interested in accessing the promising Iraqi market and participate in the investment process in Iraq as it is considered to be a strategic partner for Iran in the region in addition to fine common historical relations between the two countries.

Chairman of the National Authority for Investment … Confirms that the investment optimal solution to end the electricity crisis in Iraq

While attending a workshop on investment held by the Ministry of Electricity
The head of the National Investment Commission, Dr. Sami Raouf al-Araji, said the investment in the electricity sector will contribute effectively to ease electricity crisis currently experienced by the country and contribute to bridge the shortfall between the desired and the supply of electric power.
This came during a press conference held on the sidelines of the workshop on investment held by the Ministry of Electricity on the establishment of eight power stations big by investing in various provinces, noting that in the case to speed up the implementation of the plan to establish these stations will receive Iraq on the energy of five thousand Mika Watts, in addition to the existing current.
Araji disclosed receipt of requests to the body of international companies with a total investment of convergence (26) thousand megawatts was done in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity directly and daily.
And patterns of investment in the electricity sector said al-Araji, that there are three modes to invest the first to come investor with new equipment for the establishment of the station, near fuel sources (oil refineries), while the second mode is to be the purchase of equipment that was imported from my company (Siemens and General Electric) Wars so as to speed up the installed and operated according to the agreed mechanism and the third pattern is the establishment of a private joint stock company established for the purpose of participation of the private sector and the Ministry of Electricity in the installation and operation of power stations, including imported equipment from two companies (Siemens and General Electric).

The National Investment Commission Chairman emphasizes;” investment is the ideal solution to end the electricity crisis in Iraq”

Dr. Sami R. Al-Araji, NIC Chairman, emphasized at the press conference held after the investment workshop that investment in power sector would actively contribute in decreasing the electricity crisis Iraq is currently suffering from by providing the electricity demanded.
The workshop was held by the MoE regarding establishing 8 big power stations through investment in various provinces. He also explained in case of speeding up the implementation of this plan, Iraq will get 5000MW additional to the current one.
Dr. Al-Araji said that requests from international companies were received by NIC, with daily and direct coordination with MoE, to invest in power sector with total capacity of approximately 26 thousand MW.
He referred to the three types of investment, first: investor installs new equipments to build the station close to the fuel sources (Oil Refineries), second: purchase equipment from international companies, Siemens and General Electric to be installed and operated according to an approved mechanism. The third type: is represented by establishing a company as a private sector partner to the MoE in installing and operating power stations including equipments imported from Siemens and General Electric.

The Chairman of the National Investment Commission meets with his Egyptian Counterpart.

His Excellency Mahmud Muhii- Aldeen, the Egyptian Investment Minister received His Excellency, Dr. Sami R. Al-Araji, NIC Chairman and the accompanied delegation at the Egyptian Investment Ministry HQ at the 10th of June 2010. They reviewed during the meeting the recent events in Iraq and Egypt regarding investment and businessmen. Dr. Sami noted NIC role to remove obstacles and provide required assistance to foreign investors, also emphasized the Egyptian role due to its unique role at the investment field and the great experience which can be utilized.
Dr. Al -Araji explained NIC strategy and its efforts to determine the investment priorities on the national level and provinces in addition to explaining the investment map according to strategic projects. Dr. Sami invited H.E Mahmud Muhii- Aldeen to visit Iraq for one day to meet with Prime Minister Maliki and then prepare for the visit of a big delegation of Egyptian investors and businessmen to visit Baghdad, Kurdistan, Basra and Middle Euphrates provinces to have an idea about the security situation and improvements in addition to know the investment map.
Mr. Mahmud Muhii- Aldeen welcomed the invitation and said that he will visit Iraq in early July due to his engagement in forming and discussing issued relevant to the Egyptian People Council. He also declared his strong desire to support Egyptian investment in Iraq referring to the latest developments and plans according to President Mubarak orders in enhancing relations between the two countries. Focusing on the necessity of outlining the required project in Iraq, H.E mentioned the reason behind the delay in going to Iraq is due to closely watching the elections results and the impact of the international finance crises and some of the latest explosions. Mr. Muhii- Aldeen proposed having a reception party and dinner to the big well-known construction companies during the presence of Dr. Sami in Cairo to explain NIC plans, investment map in Iraq and the role of the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo regarded as the canal with the National Investment Commission.
Dr. Al- Araji and Ambassador Nizar Al- Khiaralla participated in speeches in Cairo Province Conference held in 11th June 2010 under the Patronage of the Egyptian investment Minister and the attendance of a number of ministers and five governors in addition to a big number of businessmen, investors and representatives of strong companies in Cairo. A tour was conducted to see a new city in the 6th of October province built by Orascom company under medium/law cost projects.
Mr. Muhii- Aldeen expressed his thanks to Dr. Sami and Ambassador Nizar Al- Khiaralla for their interest in this field and highly estimated the Ambassador’s role in following up the Iraqi trainees participating in courses developed by the Egyptian investment ministry and their level and efficiency.
