• The Yellow Book is used in contracts
where the contractor carries out the
design as well as the actual
construction. The Yellow Book is a
model of a balanced contract between
two parties, in which payment is made
to the contractor on a lump-sum basis.
• The Silver Book is suitable for use in
projects where the contractor prepares
the designs, in which payment is
made on a lump-sum basis and based
on full completion, whereby the
contractor bears all risks involved.
• The Green Book is used for small,
low-capital projects, or for recurring
or short-term works, where the
employer is responsible for
preparation of the designs.
• The Gold Book is used for projects in
which the contractor bears full
responsibility for financing,
construction and operation, with less
oversight by the employer.

2. Use of FIDIC terms does not mean
adhering to them literally as written;
rather, they can be amended based on
negotiations between the two parties.
These conditions can also be adapted to
the prevailing provisions under local
